National Sports Festival: Team Imo in high spirits as Ogu confident of a medal haul

Ahead of the commenement of the much awaited National Sports Festival (NSF), on Friday, April 2nd 2022, there is palpable buoyancy in the camp of Team IMO. Coaches and their Athletes in the various sports to be partaked on at the festival proper have been working tirelessly to perfect their plans and strategies in order to meet the medal target.
The state’s commissioner of youth and sports development, Dan Ogu is confident that team IMO will excel at the games.
‘We are going with our first eleven, ” boasted the Commissioner. “Team IMO is not going for a jamboree, so we have carefully chosen our best to give IMO people a quality representation”
Nwozuzu Chituru, a para athletic Champion who recently won a gold medal at the world para athletic championship in Tunisia with a discuss throw of 29.89metre, expressed confidence in the ability of team IMO to excell at the Edo fiesta.
“IMO is blessed with quality athletes scattered all over the country representing different states,” she said.
She also appealed to the Imo state government to do more when it comes to encouragement and remuneration which will be a morale boost to athletes of IMO origin.
“we need to be encouraged to do more for the state because we have what it takes to compete with Lagos and Delta.”
In the same vein, a Coach in the sports commission, Coach Alex believes the coaches have done enough to guarantee a successful outing. He also eulogized the Commissioner of sports Hon Dan Ogu for his hands on approach .
“He is not an office Commisoner, he comes down to make sure that things are done the right way to get results.”
Team Imo will depart in batches to Benin City, the Edo state capital for the two week sports meet with the expectation of bringing back medals to the state.
