Goals are pouring like a downpour at the four centres of the Tsenba Wummen Football League for the Under 14 and 16 respectively after the latest round of matches (Week 9) played last weekend in the Jos Metropolis produced lots of goals and fascinating results.

In the Under 14 cadre, five home wins, three away wins, and two draws were recorded with massive 51 goals from the 10 games played from two centres of NTA College Field and St. Theresa Field (Averaging over five goals per match).

In a review of some of the games played. In the Under 14 category, Mees Palace Football Academy continued to lay the marker with an emphatic home win; Relentless Football Academy conceded more than a goal in a match for the first time this season but still garnered the three points while Highland Stars and SJC Lions put up masterclass performances to record impressive victories.

In the Under 16 category it was also goals galore with the 39 goals scored from the 10 games negotiated at National Sports Commission’s Field and St. John College’s Field respectively. Three home wins were recorded while away teams bagged five victories plus two draws.

The star performance of the week in the Under 16 is undoubtedly FC Izam’s away whiplash of Royal Stars while the eight-goal thriller involving Flying Shooters and Jeddy Academy also deserves the accolade. There was the first win of the season for Mabo Young Stars who have conceded the highest number of goals-34 while Yard FC, Tin City FA, Mees Palace FA, St. Monica, and Jazzy Stars all recorded important wins in their quest for the coveted prize.

Under 14 Wrap

Reigning league champions, Mees Palace FA protected their three points advantage at the top with a towering 6-0 whitewash of Gangere Youths who suffered their second defeat of the season. Amos Weng and Emmanuel Jawo were the stars of the game with a brace each while Destiny Lar and Joseph Emmanuel’s goals added gloss to the result. Mees Palace are first on the log with 25 points from nine matches and with a massive +50 goals difference.

Third-placed Highland Stars taught Riverside FA some football lessons after they smashed them 7-0. Davou Rwang and Timnan Patrick combined to score five goals with the former grabbing a hat-trick. Highland are level on point with second-placed Relentless FA on 22 points but they have played a game more.

Relentless FA are showing they will give Mees Palace a good run for their money in the battle for the league shield with another thrilling performance against Top Free Academy whom they annihilated 6-2. They conceded their third goal of the season in the process. Jeremiah Sunday netted four goals in the encounter. It was Top Free Academy’s third loss of the campaign and they slipped to the seventh spot with 16 points.

In the results of other games played, Light FC got their light dimmed 3-4 by SJC Lions who got their second win of the season; fourth-placed Elspuron thrashed Young Reformers; Super Stars humiliated winless Hephzibah 5-1 while 13th-placed Jazzy Stars were held to a 2-2 draw by Ceemonie SA who moved to the 14th spot with nine points. Jazzy Stars are a place above with the same nine points.

Under 16 Wrap

After almost 500 minutes of action spanning over eight matches, Mabo Young Stars had reasons to celebrate last weekend when they earned their first win of the season in a surprise 3-0 away win at 11th placed Galatians. Mabo Young Stars have three points from a possible 27. They are the last team to secure a win and it came barely a week after City Rollers rolled over Jazzy Stars for their maiden win of the season. All the 20 teams have won at least a game this season with the Mabo Young Stars’ feat.

Interestingly, St. Monica’s reign at the top of the table only lasted five days after they were flogged 4-1 by Mees Palace in a rescheduled fixture played last week Thursday. The vital win restored Mees Palace to the top of the table. The Emmanuel Adukwu inspired side kept their two points advantage with a 3-1 home victory over Bwin to move to 24 points from eight games. They are the only team with a 100 percent record to date.

FC Izam posted one of the best results of the weekend after they whipped Royal Stars 6-0 in an away fixture. Francis Thomas scored twice in the 17th and 20th minutes shortly after Nzube Stephen put FC Izam in the ascendancy in the third minute. Further goals from Job Uhuro, Benjamin David, and Emmanuel Michael in the 33rd, 50th, and 59th made for a frenetic finish. FC Izam and Mees Palace are the only two teams that are yet to taste defeat this season but the former is third on the log with 21 points from nine games.

Another contender for the game of the week was the eight-goal thriller between 10th placed Flying Shooters and Jeddy Academy who occupies the 16th position with seven points. Muhammed Adam fired a quickfire brace in the first and eighth minutes for a great start from Flying Shooters but Jeddy Academy came back strongly and were rewarded with three goals through Jacob Prince, Emmanuel Nyam, and Jacob Prince in the 25th, 39th, and 42nd minutes to lead 3-2. Alfred Prince extended Jeddy Academy’s lead to 4-2 in the 56th. The home team were undaunted and resolute and they were honoured with two late goals in the last three minutes to ensure the game ended 4-4 apiece.

In the rest of the games played, St. Monica held on to the second spot on the table with 22 points from nine games after they pipped City Rollers 2-1; Jazzy Stars recorded a 1-0 away win over SJC Lions to shoot to the seventh spot with 14 points while SJC Lions slid to the 13th position with 10 points.
