Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership entered Matchday Seven with seven impressive games played across seven centres in Nigeria on Wednesday.

After the disappointments of last midweek games where they were beaten, Osun Babes, Royal Queens, Delta Queens and Edo Queens all won at home while Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels continued with their unputdownable statistics with away wins in Umuahia and Calabar respectively. Nasarawa Amazons also bagged their first away points of the campaign in their away victory at Ibom Angels.

Royal Queens 2-0 Dreamstar Ladies

Royal Queens got their ego bruised last week after a 3-1 thrashing in Lagos by FC Robo Queens but they returned to more familiar terrain to beat rock bottom DreamStars.

Chika Idika and Rosemary Adesina’s goals in the 46th and 57th minutes were enough to lift them to the eighth spot on the log with 10 points from seven games.

*Ibom Angels 0-1 Nasarawa Amazons

Nasarawa Amazons with undefire ex-Super Falcons’ gaffer, Christopher seemed to hitting their strides again after such calamitous start by their standards. The Ladies from Lafia scored a late goal at the Practice Pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo through impressive Adejoke Ejalonibu who stung Ibom Angels with her goal in the 82nd minute. It was the same Ejalonibu that rescued the maximum points for her team in their lacklustre 2-1 home win over Abia Angels last week. She struck then four minutes from the final whistle.

The consecutive wins have taken Nasarawa Amazons to the ninth spot with nine points. Ibom Angels remained in 13th spot with four points.

Abia Angels 1-2 Bayelsa Queens

It is only Abia Angels that can explain the reasons for their free falls since the start of the season. Only two wins from seven is unacceptable for a team that has played in the playoffs for the championship and this must be addressed fort with.

Bayelsa Queens held their nerves to maintain their almost perfect start to the season with another victory in Umuahia at Abia Angels’ expense. The Restoration Ladies’ Precious Vincent put the visitors ahead in the 40th minute. ‘Home girl’ Mmessoma Ibeh equalised in the 56th minute but Charity Reuben converted a late minute penalty to hand valuable points to Bayelsa Queens. It was Charity’s third goal in the last two games after she fired a brace in their tough home win over Edo Queens last week. Bayelsa Queens hold on to top spot with 18 points while Abia Angels are in the 11th spot with six points.

Pelican Stars 1-2 Rivers Angels

Chiwendu Ufomba 73′ ⚽| 1-2

Rivers Angels buildozed Pelican Stars and were two goals up by the 16th minute through Cynthia Aku and Oghenebrume Ikekhua but Pelican Stars threatened a comeback when Chinwendu Ufomba reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute. Rivers Angels are in the second spot with 17 points. They are still unbeaten after seven games.

Osun Babes 1-0 Sunshine Queens

Just like their male counterparts, Sunshine Stars who lost 1-0 in Kaduna to Kano Pillars on Wednesday , Sunshine Queens on the same day were also pinned by a lone goal by Osun Babes who preserved their perfect home record this season. The manner of the Queens’ defeat in Osogbo will no doubt be reverberating after they conceded a goal in the 92nd minute through Kafayat Bashiru. Osun Babes improved to the sixth spot with 12 points while Sunshine Queens are in the seventh position with 10 points.

*Delta Queens 1-0 FC Robo Queens

Delta Queens’ Tejiri Edward was truly at home at the Agbor Township Stadium, Agbor after she fired from 12 yards in the 72nd minute to hand the Okowa Ladies maximum points againstC Robo Queens. Delta Queens returned to the top four as a result of the vital win with 13 points.

FC Robo who were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night on their way to Agbor for the tie got N150,000 financial boost from Delta State Sports Commission Boss, Tonobok Okowa shortly after the game. They dropped out of the top four for the first time in recent weeks as a result of the loss. They are in the fifth position with 12 points.

*Edo Queens 1-0 Confluence Queens

Temitope Owoeye 83′ ⚽| 1-0

Edo Queens capitalized on the tensed atmosphere at Confluence Queens to hand the Yahaya Bello Ladies their third loss of the season. In a game played under floodlight, Temitope Owoeye struck seven minutes from time to ensure that the Obaseki Ladies grab three important points. Edo Queens are third on the table with 14 points.
