Rivers Angels have secured another vital win in one of the rescheduled Matchday Three fixtures of the Nigeria Women Football League played on Thursday.

The Isiokpo Babes pipped hard fighting Osun Babes 2-1 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt. Blessing Okpe shot the ‘Real Pride of Rivers’ ahead in the 13th minute before Yetunde Fajobi doubled the advantage in the 56th minute of the encounter.

Kemi Omodele reduced the goals arrears for the Oshogbo based Osun Babes in the 82nd minute to ensure that they lost their second game of the season from just three matches. Their first loss was the stoppage-time defeat to Robo FC last week.

In Lagos at the Agege Stadium, it was goal fest for the home team Dream Stars Ladies who whitewashed already fatigued Heartland Queens by 4-0. Elizabeth Zirike opened the goals account in the 23rd minute as the newly promoted women league side took a 1-0 halftime lead.

On the resumption of the second half, it only took Dream Stars’ Bunmi Oladeji three minutes to increase her team’s tally with the second goal. Judith Nwaogu and Aishat Animashaun added gloss to the result with two further goals in the 74th and 77th minutes.

The league game should have held on Wednesday but Heartland Queens complained that their vehicle malfunctioned on the way and the organizers agreed that the game be shifted to Thursday morning.

The emphatic loss which is Heartland Queens’ second loss of the season after their close 2-1 defeat to Edo Queens in the second game of the season is another low in the annals of the women’s team from Owerri who have been starved of funds since last season.

It was thought that the emergence of the new government with Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha at the helms will turn things around but the early signs have not given any hope at all.

Meanwhile in the remaining fixture of Thursday Monday Gift’s second goal of the season in the 65th minute earned FC Robo a commendable 1-1 draw against Delta Queens at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Maryan Ezenagu had shot the former league champions ahead in the 37th minute before the second turnaround from the Lagos based side.
