Eight time Nigeria Professional Football League Champions and reigning winners, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament, Enyimba have started the defence of the tournament with a 2-0 win over NNL side, City FC of Abuja on Sunday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The People’s Elephant got their two goals through new signings: Ikenna Cooper and Elijah Akanni in the 31st and 88th minutes. Enyimba dominated the fixture but poor marksmanship meant they only won by two goals.
In the other games played today, Empire Sports Academy, Umuahia shared the spoils with Jaguar Football Academy of Okigwe in a game that ended 2-2 apiece.
The two sides started like a house on fire scoring the four goals before the half hour mark. Pastoria Idris and Onuwa Orji scored for Empire in the 8th and 22nd minutes while Okechukwu Success and Chigozie Anyaegbunam netted in the 24th and 29th minutes to make it 2-2 and the scoreline remained like that untill the end of the game.
Also, Supreme Kings Academy, Umuahia recorded a 3-1 victory over Jewels Academy of Aba in the Group B opening game decided at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba
Emmanuel Ibe netted the first goal of the tournament when he gave Supreme Kings the lead in the 4th minute while Prince Atina Edet made it 2-0 at the dot of 45 mins.
Jewels pulled one back through substitute Mojeeb Suleiman in the 48th minute but Ikechukwu Eke put the icing on the cake for Supreme Kings when he netted the third goal in the 80th minute.
Supreme Kings, led by Edozie Chukwudi Godwin are ahead in Group B with three points and plus two goals difference pending the outcome of other game in the group.
Tomorrow, Abia Warriors and Sunshine Stars will slug it out in another Group B tie at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.
In another fixture billed for tomorrow Ngwa United will square up with Ahudiya FC while Heartland and Apex Krane have a date also, tomorrow.
