The remains of the mother of Dr. Patrick Ekeji, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House,Owerri, Late Ezinne Francisca Eregbuonyeokoro Ekeji, was buried amidst pomp and ceremony at her family hometown in Umuemeri Ogwu Nguru Nwenkwo in Aboh Mbaise LGA of Imo State.
In his homily at St. Joseph Catholic Church Ogbor Nguru, Rev. Fr. Augustine Amadi, who represented Bishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji commended Mama Eregbuonyeokoro and exhorted her good deeds on earth while reminding the people she left behind to continue in the good steps of their mother.
The powerful state government delegation was led by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Placid Njoku, Chief of Staff to the Government of Imo State, Nnamdi Anyaehie, other government personalities, the sports sector, community leaders, business leaders and political elites.
The Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to God for a life well-spent whom he described as a role model to women.
He recalled his relationship with the Ekeji family and wished the governor was around noting that Senator Uzodinma’s relationship with the family started long before he came into politics.
The Deputy Governor, who said that the governor asked him to represent him due to a very important state duty, extended his deepest condolences to the people of Mbaise Nguru Nwenkwo and Aboh Mbaise LGA for the demise of Mama Ekeji.
The burial could as well be described as a political carnival as leaders from all major political parties in the country came to pay their last respect to the woman that produced one of the greatest sports administrators in the history of Nigeria, Dr Patrick Ekeji.
The former National team coach thanked the visitors who came from every part of the country to pay their last respect to the mother.
