The Secretary General, Commonwealth Handball Association, Jibril Ojih Saidu has reiterated his desire to ensure that Nigerian Handball benefits immensely from his new appointment as the scribe of the Association which housed 34 Commonwealth nations as members.

Saidu was elected as the Secretary-General in an election conducted in Spain last weekend and in a chat with our correspondent, he noted that he was thrilled to have been elected into the exalted position and that Nigerian Handball would be the better for it.

“Nigeria stands to benefit better than any part of the country within the Commonwealth of Nations,” Saidu informed our correspondent.

“Because once you have the secretariat at your disposal, whatever comes up there won’t evade you. You will be carried along.

Saidu charged the Nigeria Handball Federation to make it a point of duty to be in close contact with the Commonwealth Handball Association to ensure that they are in the know of every activity to be embarked upon by the Association.

“It is why the resident Federation has a lot of jobs to do knowing that when we need anything they must always be at our side.

“It involves handball generally. It is all-encompassing and it involves all the categories of handball within the Commonwealth of Nations.”

Executive board member of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Jibril Ojih Saidu has been elected as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Handball Nations Association.

Jibril, an Executive Board member of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) and the representative of the North Central zone, was elected unopposed to lead the administrative affairs of the governing body of handball for English speaking countries globally.

Jibril took over as Secretary-General from another Nigeria, General Ishola Williams who was the pioneer Secretary-General.

The Commonwealth Handball Nations Association is the governing body for handball in the British Commonwealth.

Established in Salford, England in 1985 to try to get Handball into the Commonwealth Games, the governing body caters for commonwealth nations as well as to develop the game of handball in member states.

Also, the Commonwealth Handball Nations Association is vested in attaining greater recognition for the English language speaking nations within the IHF; representing the interest of Commonwealth nations within the IHF; developing technical expertise through coaching and refereeing; promote friendship through competitions and to promote handball throughout the Commonwealth.
