Imo Sports Commissioner hails Imo Striker Queens , lauds organisers

On Saturday, Imo state’s representative in the just concluded Chief of Naval Staff/Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA) U-17 Female Football Tournament 2021, Imo Striker Queens defeated their counterparts from Ekiti state 4-3 on penalties after regulation time ended in a goalless draw in a tournamentnt held in Abuja.

The Imo state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Ogu congratulated the young team that’s barely five months old for winning the first ever trophy in their nascent history in their first ever major outing.

He commended them for a remarkable performance at the just concluded football tournament as they showed dexterity, resilience and exhibited the can do spirit of Ndi Imo.

He also praised Governor Hope Uzodimma, for his continuous support for sports development in Imo state.

Ogu said: “These young Imo footballers deserve our respect for representing this state so well. We congratulate them on their record breaking performance.”

“Finishing in 3rd place out of seven state’s that participated in the championship is no mean feat. It is a commendable achievement that places Imo state on the national and global maps of world football and signposts a new trajectory for the sport in Imo”, Ogu further stated.

“We will monitor, support, train and invest in the young girls. We will design a program for them and have them prepared for more victories. We have started building a new and younger generation of Imo athletes that will surely do us proud. There is so much hope for the future,” he added.

He gave kudos to the CEO of Imo Striker Queens, Prince Chidi as well as lauded the organisers of the tournament and called for improvement in subsequent editions.
