The first stanza of the 2025 Contrompler General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League concluded in Abuja on Thursday evening with Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) crowned as the halfway champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
In the men’s cadre, defending champions CNS returned to the summit with a commanding 3-0 win over Offa VC. Despite suffering two losses in their 11 matches, they finished the phase top of the log with 29 points.
Nigeria Customs Service capped their late surge with a 3-0 victory over Sunshine Spikers to tie on 25 points with Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). However, Customs snatched second place courtesy of superior sets won, leaving NSCDC in third after their shock 3-2 defeat to Nigeria Correctional Service. The victory was Correctional’s sixth of the campaign, placing them sixth overall with 17 points.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) edged Kano Pillars 3-2 in a thriller to finish fourth on 23 points, while Nigeria Police Force rounded off the top five despite a 3-1 defeat to UCEM. At the base of the standings, Kada Kings finally picked up their first win of the season after edging Nigeria Air Force 3-2, but still ended bottom on four points. NAF placed 11th with six points.
The women’s category once again showcased the dominance of Nigeria Customs Service, who completed a flawless run. The defending champions demolished CNS 3-0 to make it 11 wins from 11 matches, amassing a perfect 33 points.
NSCDC, who recorded a comprehensive 3-0 win over Wikki Spikers, leapfrogged CNS into second place with 29 points—their only blemish being the loss to Customs. CNS settled for third with 27 points from nine wins.
Elsewhere, Kada Emeralds and Olalomi VC ended their campaigns on winning notes, beating Anambra Queens and Life Camp 3-1 respectively. COAS also recorded a straight-sets victory over Benue Queens to keep their chase alive. Kada missed out on the top five despite their late rally, finishing sixth with 18 points, while Olalomi placed eighth on 12 points.
With the first phase concluded, attention now shifts to Abuja once again, where the decisive second phase will run from November 29 to December 10, when champions will be officially crowned.
