Enyimba will face another Sudanese side, Al Merrikh in the first round of the CAF Champions League just like at the same stage last season when they traded tackles with Al Hilal also of Sudan.
The People’s Elephant set up the fixture after they eliminated Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso for the second season running in the preliminary round of the foremost club competition. The tie ended 1-1 in Aba but Enyimba’s 1-0 away success in Ouagadougou meant they scaled through 2-1 on aggregate.
Enyimba were stopped by Al Hilal 1-0 on aggregate in the first round of the CAF Champions League last year and they will combat another Sudanese in their quest to qualify for the group stage of the competition.
In other first round ties: Asante Kotoko will face another Sudanese side, Al Hilal while Daniel Akpeyi’s Kaizer Chiefs have a date with Angolan side, Premeiro De Agosto. MC Alger of Algeria will tackle Kingsley Eduwo’s CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
The first leg holds in the weekend of 22nd and 23rd December while the return leg is fixed for the weekend of January 5th and 6th, 2021.
