The group stage games of the BetKing sponsored Imo Radio League will be concluded this weekend with four key matches to be played at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri.
Reach Fm and Ozisa Fm with maximum points from the two games they have played have already picked two of the four semi-final tickets with the remaining six teams angling out for the remaining two routes to the last four.
Games were played last weekend with interesting results. In Group A, Zanders Fm staged a comeback from their opening day 3-0 whitewash by Reach Fm to beat My Radio/Gold Fm 2-0 but Darling Fm who began the competition with a 2-1 victory over My Radio/Gold Fm stumbled to a 2-0 defeat to Reach Fm.
Reach Fm already topped the group by virtue of the head to head rule and the number of goals they have scored. They will face My Radio/Gold Fm knowing that they could field a second-string side with the semi-final ticket already assured irrespective of how the next fixture pan out.
Zanders Fm and Darling Fm, on the other hand, must fight for the remaining ticket to the semi-final. Both teams are at par at the end of two games. They are on the same number of goals scored and conceded but whoever beat the other on Saturday will qualify for the last four.
In Group B, It is also straightaway for the surprise team of the competition Ozisa Fm. They have accumulated six points from two games from wins over Orient Fm (5-4) and Bloggers/ Print Media (2-1).
Ozisa Fm have qualified from Group B as the leader and their fixture with NTA could throw up interesting posers on Sunday. NTA are still unbeaten in the competition with two draws from their games with Bloggers/ Print Media (2-2) and Orient Fm (2-2).
NTA will easily pick the second semi-final ticket in the group if they beat already qualified Ozisa Fm irrespective of the outcome of Orient Fm vs Bloggers/Print Media which will be played on Saturday, like 24 hours before their fixture with Ozisa Fm.
Bloggers/ Print Media and Orient Fm need Ozisa Fm to beat NTA while they are also aware that they must a winner must emerge in their tie on Saturday before paying attention to the other game between NTA and Ozisa Fm the following day.
It has been two weeks of exciting football games at the BetKing Imo Radio League and as the third-week matches beckon the competition has afforded broadcast journalists in Imo State to set aside time for recreation.
It has also created a platform for broadcast journalists in Imo State to get to know themselves better.
BetKing are the title sponsor of the competition but there are also support from the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Tecno and Green Hart Sports Arena/Bar
