Amuneke, Shorounmu mourn Imienger

Former CAF Player of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke has mourned the exit of ex-Super Eagles teammate, Barnabas Imienger who reportedly died on Sunday after a protracted ailment.

Amuneke who said he met the former Team Manager of Lobi Stars in the Eagles said he was shocked by the manner of his exit.

The former Super Eagles winger prayed for the repose of the soul of the one-time electrifying striker whom he called a gentleman to the core.

“It was just a piece of shocking news you gave to me about Barnabas Imienger. He was somebody I met in the national team with Akin Akinsehinde, Abdul Sule,” Amuneke told www.dasportstainment247.com from his base in Egypt.

“He was a very great player. He was an easy-going person. What else can we say? May God give his family the fortitude to overcome this difficult time.

“May his soul rest in peace. We have lost another great player; an ex-player that has done so much for the country and the game.”

Speaking in the same vein, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ike Shorounmu said he only had fond memories of late Imienger.

“When I heard about his death this morning, I was so shocked,” Shorounmu told www.dasportstainment247.com.

“He was an easy-going person. He was a kind of person you needed to be around. He was very nice.”
