Almeria striker, Umar Sadiq notched a brace for his Spanish La Liga Smartbank for his 18th league goal of the season in their 2-2 home draw with Real Oviedo tonight.
The Rojiblancos started the game at a fast pace and had a penalty kick in the 18th minute which Jose Corpas took but missed. Another spot-kick followed four minutes later after waves of incessant attacking forays but this term Sadiq dispatched the penalty kick with aplomb for Almeria’s curtain-raiser.
Almeria’s early dominance was evident when they grabbed the second goal in the 30th minute to make it a 2-0 lead through the Nigerian again for his 18th goal of the season.
The Rojiblancos had several chances to increase their lead but they frittered them away and were made to pay for their profligacy in the second half. Samuel Obeng started Oviedo’s comeback in the 54th minute when he halved the deficit before Simone Grippo stabbed the hearts of Almeria with the back-breaking second goal in the 85th minute.
Sadiq is third in the race for the league highest scorer with 18 goals and with only three behind current leading marksman, Uros Djurdjevic of Sporting Gijon who has scored 21 goals while Raul de Tomas of Espanyol is second with 20 goals.
The point shared with Oviedo didn’t help Almeria’s automatic promotion push as they remain in third place with 63 points from 37 games but are eight points adrift of second placed Mallorca who have 71 points from the same number of games.
