Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup: Kaltungo Boys, Komta United through to final

Kaltungo Boys and Komta United are the two finalists of the 7th edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup after both teams overcame their semi final rivals on Tuesday.

While Kaltungo Boys defeated Dinge Flying Bees, Komta United outclassed Highlanders FC Ture.

Kaltungo Boys took the hard route of a penalty shootout to make it to the final after playing a 1-1 draw with Dinge Flying Bees.

They took the lead in the 37th minute through Ali Abubakar and held on to the lead to the end of the first half.

In the second half, Dinge Flying Bees restored parity from the spot kick when their captain, Mohammed Befeto scored after the referee had adjudged a handball against Kaltungo Boys in their vital area.

In the penalty shootout, Kaltungo Boys goalkeeper Yerima Jonah was the hero of the day as he saved two spot kicks to end the tie 5-4 in favour of Kaltungo Boys.

In the second match, Komta United got the better of Highlanders FC Ture, 3-2 after a pulsating encounter that had the crowd at the edge of their feet.

Man of the match, Danladi Baka scored a brace and had an assist.

For the first goal, he dispossessed the defender and squared the ball for his teammate, Joel Joseph to tap into an empty net in the 10th minute.

Highlanders equalised in the 35th minute when Danladi Haruna struck the woodwork with the goalkeeper beaten before Nathan Diba was well-positioned to poke in the rebound.

On resumption of the second half, before the fans could even take their seats, Danladi Baka raced clear of the defenders of Highlanders FC Ture, to connect to Jeremiah Jordan’s pass and lob the ball over Usman Laban in goal for Highlander FC Ture.

Danladi Bako got his brace in the 64th minute when he bullied his way past Lamech Boyi and calmly slotted past beyond Laban Usman.

Highlanders FC Ture set the match up for a grand finish when they scored their second goal in the 68th minute when Dauda Haruna’s free-kick deflected off the wall to leave Moses Abdon the goalkeeper of Komta stranded in his spot.

Komta United held on with some stout defending to make it to the final of the 7th edition of Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup.

The 3rd place match between Dinge Flying Bees and Highlanders FC Ture will come up by 11 am on the 29th of December 2022, while the final between Kaltungo Boys and Komta United comes up by 3 pm.
