Basketball: D’Tigers continue Rwanda domination, South Sudan, Uganda, Tunisia win too

Nigeria senior men’s basketball team D’Tigers maintained their enviable record against Rwanda after another 83-62 victory at the ongoing 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Rwanda 2021 Qualifiers on Saturday night in Kigali to secure their second consecutive victory in Group D.

D’ Tigers had beaten South Sudan 76 – 56 in the opening group match on Thursday to commence their march towards another FIBA Afrobasket qualification.

It was the third successive win over Rwanda since 2018 where D’Tigers met the East African opposition twice on February 24th 2018 and June 30th, 2018 with 108-53 and 111-70 thumping victories in the FIBA Basketball World Cup China 2019 African qualifiers.

Nigeria led in all the quarters except the third where they struggled to allow Rwanda to close the gap to 14 points but they quickly regained the advantage in the fourth quarter to secure an 83-62 win.

The trio of captain Ike Diogu, Obi Emegano and Ike Iroegbu contributed 46 points to the D’Tigers’ vital win which kept them at the top of Group D ahead of South Sudan, Rwanda and Mali.

Nigeria last match is slated for for Sunday against Mali who lost to South Sudan 77-64 also on Saturday.

In some of the other results played on Saturday: Uganda shocked Morocco 94-90; Egypt edged Cape Verde 91-82; Central African Republic spanked Madagascar 95-79 and Tunisia with a close 60-51 win over DR Congo
