Zanders FM have secured their first victory of the ongoing first edition of the BETKING Imo Radio League after they defeated the whipping team of Group A, My Radio by 2-0 in a tie played at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri on Saturday afternoon.
Zanders had lost their first game by 3-0 to Reach FM just like My Radio were also pipped by Darling FM 2-1 in their Matchday One encounter and both needed a positive result to remain in contention for a place in the semi-final of the tournament.
It was Zanders that displayed the necessary firepower to beat My Radio 2-0 to rekindle their hope of qualifying for the last four while My Radio have been eliminated by virtue of their consecutive defeats. They will play their last game against Reach FM next weekend just for pride.
Reach FM who will face Darling FM on Sunday at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri by 3 pm are still first in Group A with three points and a superior goal difference while Darling FM and Zanders FM are following closely in second and third position with the same three points but are separated by goals difference. My Radio are last in the group with no points after two games.
A Group B game was also decided at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri on Saturday between NTA Owerri and Orient FM and it ended in a 2-2 draw.
NTA Owerri also drew their first game of the group in a pulsating 2-2 draw against Bloggers/Print Media last weekend after they surrendered a 2-0 first-half lead.
They (NTA) are on two points from two matches and are second in Group B. Orient FM who were narrowly edged 5-4 by the surprise package of the competition, Ozisa FM have thus picked their first point of the campaign. They are, however, still last in the group with one point from two games because of their inferior goals difference to the Bloggers/ Print Media who play Ozisa FM on Sunday also at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri by 5 pm.
Ozisa FM are still on top of the group with three points despite only playing a game still. A win against the Bloggers/ Print Media will see them move closer to picking a semi-final ticket while the Bloggers/ Print Media are aware that only a positive result will ensure they retain the hope of a place in the last four.
The Imo Radio League is sponsored majorly by BETKING with additional support from First City Monumental Bank (FCMB) and Tecno and it is expected to end on December 8, 2019.
