Nigeria Under 23 team, Olympic Eagles have been held to a 1-1 draw by their Tanzanian counterparts, in the second round, first leg of the Under 23 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers played in Dar-es-Salam yesterday.
The Olympic Eagles drew the first blood in the 29th minute through the skipper of the side, Success Makanjuola from the penalty spot after the Nigerian side dominated the early exchange.
But the home team restored parity in the 77th minute from the spot after another infringement in the Olympic Eagles 18 yards box.
Nigeria was fortunate to secure a 1-1 draw with the Tanzanians hitting the post on about three occasions late In the goal after they went in search of the winning goal in the dying minutes.
The hurriedly assembled Olympic Eagles left for Tanzania with 18 players with 11 players from the local league while the remaining eight were from less fancied teams abroad.
The team had less than two weeks training in camp and have not won any game from three matches including two friendly games.
The return leg comes up in Ibadan next Saturday with the Olympic Eagles assured of a place in the next round if they stopped the Tanzanians from scoring in the second leg.
