Enugu Rangers have emerged as the undisputed champions of Enugu State after they dismantled Inter FC 3-0 in the inaugural Enugu FA Super Cup played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Sunday.
The Flying Antelopes goals were scored by Kehinde Adedipe, Ifeanyi George and Dauda Madaki in the 32nd, 40th and 90th minutes to become the king of football in the Coal City in the maiden edition of the tournament held between the winner of the State FA Cup and the State League.
The encounter drew a number of appreciative crowds inside the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium saw care-taker gaffer, Benedict Ugwu hand starts to Olawoyin Ibrahim, Kehinde Adedipe, Obinna Eleje and Sadick Abbas who shone like a million stars against the State league champions.
Rangers would have been up as early as the opening five minutes by as much as three goals but for some misses by Ifeanyi George and sharp reflexes of goalkeeper, Nnamani Sunday for the amateur side kept the 2018 Aiteo Cup Champions at bay.
The amateur side gained in confidence with Rangers’ early profligacy and ventured forward with Ibe Izuchukwu leading the attack but were stoutly resisted by the Isiaka Oladuntoye led defence line.
Adedipe broke the deadlock in 32nd minute with a simple finish off an Olawoyin’ assist with George netting the second eight minutes later with a near-post finish after he was set up by Eleje.
Substitute, Madaki put the icing on the cake with a 90th minute finish off George’s assist as the Flying Antelopes whitewashed Inter FC despite playing with a man disadvantage after Ugwu Uwadiegwu got the referee’s marching order for dissent in the second half.
Coach Benedict Ugwu said after the encounter, “It was a good display by my players as our opponent gave us a good fight. We continue to work on our strategies to fashion out a more clinical play in subsequent matches. The contest was good and the innovation was great from the F.A.”
Recall that Rangers won the Enugu state F.A with a 2-1 win over Star Plus F.C while F.C Inter were 3-0 winners over Purple Krown F.C in the final of the Enugu State league.
