Lobi Stars head coach, Eddie Dombraye has welcome the idea of the President’s Cup that is presently keeping four NPFL clubs busy in Abuja and he has thumbed up the organisers for a job well done.

The Pride of Benue played against NPFL reigning champions, Akwa United and lost by a lone goal in their first game yesterday but the former striker affirmed that the game would afford them the chance to know the players that would prosecute the tie with Rivers United, in their first game of the season.

He said he was thrilled to be up against Akwa United and the result of the game would be secondary to him and his players as they intensify their build-up towards the new season which kicks off on December 17.

“It is the maiden President’s Cup I guess, for club sides. It is very important for me in my own opinion,” Dombraye informed dasportstainment247.com.

“Playing against the reigning champion is even better for me. We have just assembled a new team and so playing against the champion is very good. It will enable us to test what we have and the result doesn’t matter.

“The game will give us an idea of how we want to play against Rivers United in the first league game of the season. I appreciate it that we are up against Akwa United first before we face Rivers United in the league.”
