As the clamour to ensure that youths of Imo State and its environs are actively engaged in wholesome activities to ensure they jettisoned anti social vices, registration has commenced for football clubs in Okigwe North Federal Constituency for the 2021 Princess Miriam Onuoha Unity and Prosperity Cup.
Honourable Onuoha who is representing the Okigwe Federal Constituency in the Green Chambers disclosed this in Owerri while speaking to Imo State Sports Journalists during the media unveiling of the multi-million Naira maiden but annual competition.
The sponsor who is the first female to ever be elected to represent the Federal Constituency in the National Assembly disclosed that the competition will run simultaneously through the three council areas that constitutes the Federal Constituency, that is Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe local government areas in the 33 INEC wards with instant elimination as the grand finale will be hosted at the newly renovated Okigwe Township Stadium.
According to her”Nigerian youths are seriously yearning for attention and are equally hungry looking for a platform to enhance and market their naturally endowned talents.”
Onuoha who is also a member of the House Committee on Sports, promised to use her connections to invite soccer stars, football administrators, scouts among others to the Federal Constituency so as to talk, motivate and meaningfully engaged youths of the area in maximizing their potentials.
She advised all interested football clubs in the area to pick the free nomination/registration form,fill it and return accordingly assuring that every team that registered must receive participatory cash compensation reward and her signature ball.
The Federal Law maker expressed satisfaction with members of her Local Organizing Committee (LOC) describing them as seasoned administrators, men of pedigree, integrity and implicit confidence when it comes to football administration and management.
The football enthusiasts and sponsor vehemently cautioned against indiscipline,drug abuse, wrangling, injustice and bad officiating reiterating that her vision apart from discovery of raw talents and enhancing their career, that she is also committed in the unification and building of synergy between Okigwe North Federal Constituency youths and the rest of their counterparts in the state.
She announced the prize money to be 1m Naira for the overall winner, 750k and 500k for the first and second and runners up respectively while there will be also cash prizes for highest goal scorer, man of the match, best behaved team, the best officiating Referee etc.
