Obijohn Onyeka marks debut with goal in Cyprus

South Korean raised Obijohn Onyeka announced himself to the Cypriot Second division League with a goal on his debut in Peyia 2014 3-1 home win over Akritas FC.

Onyeka missed his club’s opening two games as he was only listed on the substitutes’ bench in both games but there was no stopping him against Akritas where he had his first game and complemented his brilliant performance with goal.

Peyia began the season with a 1-0 home win over Ayia Napa but were beaten 2-1 at Othellos before their latest 3-1 victory over Akritas FC and they have moved to the third spot with six points from three games ahead of their Saturday game with Halkanoras.

He was supported from the stands by his parents and siblings who were cheering him up.

Born to a Nigerian father, Paul Obi Onyeka and a South Korean mother, Han Sunhee on June 30th , 2005 in South Korea where is father has his chains of businesses Onyeka jr is carving a niche for himself.

Onyeka Jr started in the Asian land with 148 appearances, 66 assists and 48 goals for Sinjeong between 2015 and 2018. He continued to improve when he joined Mokdong in 2018 and by the time he left the club in 2020, he has featured in 108 matches with 48 assists and 33 goals.

Onyeka later proceeded to Chungeng High School where he was until he switched to Europe in the summer of 2023-24 with Westerlo.

Before he left Chungeng High School, Onyeka left his imprint with 28 assists and 18 goals from 72 games.

He moved to Europe with Westerlo U21 as his first port of call to continue to gain experience with the junior team but he also played for the U19 team.

Pegia 2014 with Dimitris Loannou as head coach will hope to rely on Obijohn and other acquisitions as the Cypriot second division league hits Matchday Four on Saturday.
