South Korean teenage sensation, Obijohn Onyeka could be in line to make his debut for Cypriot second division side, Pegia 2014 on Saturday September 14th, 2024 evening in the opening fixture of the season against Ayia Napa at home.
Pegia 2014 are undergoing a rebuilding process after a turbulent last season and have turned their attention to Obijohn Onyeka and other new signings to improve their fortune in the Cypriot lower league and other competitions they will participate in this season.
The story will hopefully start positively Saturday evening at Pegia 2014 home ground at Dimotiko Stadeio Pegias with the 19 year old Onyeka expected to be a great part of it having garnered experience at Belgian side, KVC Westerlo where he featured prominently for the Under 19 side.
Onyeka jr would be assisted by other players signed from other clubs like Theodoros Chrysostomou a left back from Apol Limassol ; Michalis Kolias, a left winger from AEL Limassol; Nanissio Soares, a Defensive Midfielder from APOP Polis; Avelin Nganga (CSO Turceni, Romania); Rogerio, a left winger (Sao Martinho, Portugal); Giannis Stefanov, a Goalkeeper from AEP Polemidion; Georgios Ikonomou (APOP Polis) among other top players acquired from other clubs.
Onyeka signed for Pegia 2014 on August 24th, 2024 on a free transfer from KVC Westerlo and the South Korean was involved in their preparatory games and he is set to make his new club his oasis with which to relaunch himself to the main Europe again in no distant future.
Born to a Nigerian father, Paul Obi Onyeka and a South Korean mother, Han Sunhee on June 30th , 2005 in South Korea where is father has his chains of businesses.
Onyeka Jr is striving to carve a niche for himself having started in the Asian land with 148 appearances, 66 assists and 48 goals for Sinjeong between 2015 and 2018. He continued to improve when he joined Mokdong in 2018 and by the time he left the club in 2020, he has featured in 108 matches with 48 assists and 33 goals.
Onyeka later proceeded to Chungeng High School where he was until he switched to Europe in the summer of 2023-24 with Westerlo.
Before he left Chungeng High School, Onyeka left his imprint with 28 assists and 18 goals from 72 games.
He moved to Europe with Westerlo U21 as his first port of call to continue to gain experience with the junior team but he also played for the U19 team.
Pegia 2014 with Dimitris Loannou as head coach will hope to rely on Obijohn and other new acquisitions as the Cypriot second division league kicks off on Saturday.
