NSF (Basketball): Lagos, Kano, Gombe, Bayelsa consolidate gold medal prospect with big wins as event marks day three today

The basketball event of the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival enters day three today with interesting results recorded on Thursday in Benin City reports www.dasportstainment247.com.

In the men’s category, host Edo State suffered their first loss after they were out dunked by Gombe State 68-60. They had earlier beaten Kwara State in their opening game on Wednesday by 59-51 points.

In the other men’s result, Lagos showed they are the team to beat in basketball after they crushed Kwara State by 105-52 points in a one-sided affair played yesterday while Gombe State are also warming to the challenge posed by Lagos and other States that may stand in their way and the gold medal with two solid wins after two games.

Www.dasportstainment247.com further reports that Gombe State thrashed host Edo 68-60 points yesterday as a follow-up to their 66-59 points victory over tough Kano State men’s team. They have maximum points and have brightened their medal prospects.

In the Women’s cadre, Bayelsa State bounced back from their Wednesday’s narrow loss to host Edo State to pound Borno State by 74-32 points In Group A. Bayelsa State have booked their semi-final berth by the virtue of their emphatic win over Borno.

Kano Pillars Ladies are the peak of the pack in Group B. They out-muscled Nasarawa State by 74-49 points after earlier dislodging Lagos State by 59-48 points. They are also through to the last four as Group B leaders.

Matches continue in both categories as from 8.00 am today. In the men’s cadre, Gombe State will be seeking a third consecutive win when they face Lagos while Kano State will try to hunt for their first victory of the current National Sports Festival when they slug it with host Edo State by 4.00 pm also today.

In the Women’s cadre, host Edo will go all out for the maximum points when they lock horns with Borno State who will be hoping to avoid a second straight defeat. They will nick the second ticket from Group A if they win while Borno will progress if they manage to beat the host. The tie holds by 8.00 am today.

With Kano Pillars already assured of a semi-final ticket by their two wins over Lagos and Nasarawa States, the remaining two States will go for the broke to ensure they acquire the second ticket. Lagos and Nasarawa will slug it out by 4.00 pm today with the winning side assured of a place in the last four as Group B runners up.
