Kwara United, Shooting Stars stake topflight return claim with win over Sunshine Stars, Lobi Stars

Kwara United have stepped up their preparations for the start of the Nigeria National League with another eye-catching preseason victory over Sunshine Stars at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure on Sunday.

Abdullahi Biffo tutored lads defeated their hosts 2-1 in Akure in a tough friendly contest.

The Harmony Boys and the Owena Whales both featured at a preseason tournament in Ijebu Ode but they faced each other in Akure Sunday after they could not do enough to earn a semi-final ticket.

Ajibola Adeleke scored the curtain-raiser for Kwara United in the 59th minute before they doubled the advantage eight minutes later to the disappointment of their fans.

Sunshine Stars were awarded a spot-kick in the 74th minute but Emmanuel Fabiyi thwarted Anthony Omaka’s effort from the 12 yards with a smart save.

The home team later reduced the arrears in the dying moments of the tie but it was not enough to hinder Kwara United from grabbing a memorable win in Akure.

Kwara United are experiencing reorganization after their cameo appearance in the topflight last season and under Bashiru Badawiy who is the club’s new General Manager, things have been turning head for good.

Meanwhile in Ijebu Ode, Shooting Stars made it a day to remember for the lower league teams after they whitewashed Lobi Stars 5-0 in a preseason friendly tie.

Goals from Nojeem Olukokun, Ayobami Junior, Rasheed Olaniran, Taiwo Muritala and Akilu Mohammed ensured that the 2018 league champions were torn apart.
