Aguneze Community (Ahiazu Mbaise) easily thrashed Onicha Nwankwo (Ezinihitte Mbaise) 2-0 in a Group F tie of the ongoing Ikukuoma Mbaise Owerri Zone U-20 Football Tournament played at the Central School Field, Ezeagbogu Ezinihitte Mbaise on Thursday.
It was one of the two games decided on the today with the other being the explosive 2-2 draw between Obokwu Community (Ezinihitte Mbaise) and Oru Community (Ahiazu Mbaise). Thursday games produced six goals it is the highest scoring day thus far in the tournament that marked its fourth day today.
Aguneze Community got their goals through Chima Okendu who bagged a brace in the 31st and 52nd minutes of the game to the chagrin of Onicha Nwankwo Community and their fans who had thronged the school field expecting a victory.
In the second game, Amaechi Chidiomma put Oru Community in the lead in the 30th minute but Ajaero Chibueze equalised for Obokwu two minutes before the half time break. Njoku Chiadikaobi restored Oru Community’s lead in the 56th minute but Ifeanyi Emeneogu got the equaliser for Obokwu in the 71st minute to ensure a shared spoils.
On Wednesday, Okpofe/Ezeagbogu (Ezinihitte Mbaise) pipped Umuoree Eziudo (Ezinihitte Mbaise) 1-0 in a local derby played at the ongoing Ikukuoma Mbaise Owerri Zone U-20 Football Tournament bankrolled by the President of Ikukuoma Sports Development Foundation, High Chief (Dr) Summers Nwokie.
Sabinus Ukaegbu struck in the 12th minute to hand Okpofe the much cherished maximum points. The win has taken Okpofe/Ezeagbogu team to the top of Group D with three points while Umuoree Autonomous Community and Amumara Community, the other teams in Group D are yet to get off the mark.
Earlier in the opening game played on Sunday, Ere Na Abiringwe (Owerri West) fought harder but were undone by Eze Evantus’ eighth minute strike for Ogbe Community (Ahiazu Mbaise). Ogbe Community are atop in Group A with three points ahead of the remaining two teams.
In Group C, Ihitte Ward 6 (Ezinihitte Mbaise) played out an entertaining 1-1 draw with Ogwa Community (Mbaitoli). Victory Okolie notched the game’s opening goal in the seventh minute for Ogwa before Francis Ndukwu levelled up for Ihitte Ward 6 eight minutes later.
Mbieiri Community (Mbaitoli) fell 1-0 to the firepower of Irete Ward 6 (Owerri West) through Orji Chimaobi’s sixth minute goal in Group B while Ihiagwa Ward 6 (Owerri West) got a 1-1 draw against Ibeku Ward (Aboh Mbaise). Ejike Praise’s lone goal scored in the seventh minute was enough for the win.
On Friday two games are also scheduled to be played Nguru Nweke (Ahiazu Mbaise) will slug it out with Nnarambia Ward (Ahiazu Mbaise) in a local derby billed for the Central School Field, Ezeagbogu, Ezinihitte Mbaise. It is a Group H tie.
The second game of the day is between Ere Na Ebirigwe (Owerri West) and Obizi Community (Ezinihitte Mbaise). Ere Na Ebirigwe lost their first game to Ogbe Community (Ahiazu Mbaise) and they must get an emphatic win to remain in the competition.
All the games are taken place at the Central School Field, Ezeagbogu, Ezinihitte Mbaise with monetary gifts and opportunity to play abroad among the incentives for outstanding players at the end of the competition.
