It was a triumphant return to Turkey for Super Eagles striker, Henry Onyekuru who scored a brace on his third debut for Galatasaray in their 2-1 away win over Gaziantep FK on Friday night.

Onyekuru who was last involved in a competitive game in September last year showed no glimpse of match rustiness at all immediately he came on as a 46th minute replacement for Younes Belhanda.

He struck first barely five minutes after he came on as a replacement for Younes Belhanda before doubling the advantage in the 79th minute. Gaziantep later reduced the deficit in the injury time through Alexandru Maxim but the tie ended 2-1 in favour of Galatasaray as Onyekuru became cynosure of all eyes.

It was the fifth time Onyekuru will be called upon to play this season including his cameo appearances with AS Roma and his first appearance for Galatasaray since he completed his move a few days ago.

It is the third time in the last three seasons that Onyekuru will be returning to Galatasaray on loan after finding playing times difficult to get at Everton (2018-19) and AS Monaco( 2019-20 and 2020-21) with his contract with the French team expiring in June this year (as par transfermarkt).

Onyekuru’s compatriot, Oghenekaro Etebo was subbed on in the 74th minute as replacement for Emre Kilinc for his 11th league game of the season as Galatasaray moved to second on the table with 42 points from 21 games.
