. People’s Elephant secure away win but the Peace Boys lose to Simba SC in Jos

Enyimba have put themselves in a pole position to advance to the first round of the CAF Champions League after they pipped Rahimo SC of Burkina Faso 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round tie played in Ouagadougou on Sunday but Plateau United suffered agonising home defeat to Simba SC in the same competition in Jos.

It was a repeat of the 2019-20 preliminary round clash In the same CAF Champions League but on that occasion the People’s Elephant lost the first leg 1-0 and walloped the them 5-0 in the return leg played in Aba.

But on Sunday in Ouagadougou, Enyimba with shrewd players’ transfer and wonderful work ethics, beat their host 1-0 courtesy of Victor Mbaoma’s header in the 76th minute of the encounter.

With Plateau United losing 1-0 at home to Simba SC of Tanzania in Jos in the same competition earlier, the away victory of Enyimba brought respite to Nigerians who were in despair after three of the country’s representatives suffered defeats in their first leg ties in the CAF Confederation Cup and the Champions League.

In the second-tier club competition, Rivers United fell 2-1 to competition debutants, Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea while Kano Pillars fell like a pack of badly arranged cards 3-1 in Dakar against ASC Jaraaf of Senegal. Both games were played on Saturday.

Enyimba will host Rahimo SC in the return leg tie billed for Enyimba International Stadium, Aba on December 6 with the People’s Elephant aware that even a home draw will take them to the first round of the lucrative club competition. .
