Heartland FC and Enugu Rangers have topped their respective groups at the ongoing 3rd Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Pre-season Tournament in Owerri and Enugu centres respectively.
Enugu Rangers defeated Ingas FC 1-0 through the strike of In-form Chidiebere Nwobodo to top Group A with 10 points from four games. Nwobodo’s goal was his seventh in the tourney.
In Owerri, Heartland forced Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw to also finished atop Group B with 10 points out of a possible 12.
Abia Warriors scored first through Valentine Odoh in the 15th minute before the Naze Millionaires fought back gamely to equalise in the 66th minute from the penalty spot converted by Jimoh Gbadamosi after the Warriors defender touched the ball in the vital area.
Earlier, Rivers United smashed FirstMahi 5-0 to end their group games with seven points from four matches. They are currently second but Abia Warriors with five points and with a game at hand against Apex Krane today can still overtake them if they win.
