All is now set for the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Elective Congress billed for today in Abuja, with high expectations and political maneuvering already heightening the atmosphere. Outgoing President, Engineer Musa Nimrod, is strongly favoured to retain his seat unopposed, but the battle for other board positions promises to be fiercely contested.
Unlike the South West and North West where Omisore Babatunde Ayodeji and Nimrod respectively scaled through unopposed, the story is different in other regions where rivalries and regional interests are set to clash at the ballot.
In the North Central zone, three aspirants — Barshe Amakiri Bolcit, Pindar James Aliyu, and Imandi Jackson — will lock horns for the single slot available, making it one of the most anticipated contests of the day. The North East is also bracing for a showdown between Sulaiman Hamza and Hasso Stephen Baba, both eyeing a place on the board.
The South East race features Agusiobo Philomina Nwando and Nwosu Kingsley Obinna, while in the South South, Daunemigha Famous Oroupafebo is left as the lone cleared candidate after Aroko Thomas Erhunmwunse failed to appear for screening.
Beyond zonal representation, players and technical representatives are also set for intriguing battles. Anyasodike Harrison, Ejeh Matthew, and Umar Dauda Saje are all vying to become players’ representatives, while Timothy Samuel Ayodele will go head-to-head with Aye Edosa Ndubuisi for the technical representative slot.
With nearly all positions being hotly contested, the elective congress is expected to be a test of alliances, bargaining power, and regional influence. Delegates, stakeholders, and observers anticipate a day of drama and intrigue as Nigerian volleyball takes another step in shaping its leadership for the next phase of growth.
