Bendel Insurance capture NNL Super Four title

Bendel Insurance are champions of the Nigeria National League 2021-22 season after they came first at the season ending Super Four concluded in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State yesterday.

Insurance defeated Doma United 2-1 to make the title certain after goals from ex-MFM duo of Austin Ogunye and Ebenezer Odeyemi was only halved by Doma United’s Joshua Enoch after an howler from Insurance’s goalkeeper.

It was the Edo Arsenal that started stronger of both teams and they took the lead in the 38th minute when Ogunye nodded home the opener and it was how the first half ended.

Doma United took the game to Bendel Insurance at the start of the second half and their effort was rewarded in the 54th minute when a routine long range effort from Enoch squirmed through the grasp of Insurance for the equaliser. It was Doma United’s first goal of the tournament.

Insurance managed to be in the ascendancy for the second time in the 70th minute through Odeyemi and it was how the game ended.

With the win, Bendel Insurance ended the Super Four with seven points from there games ahead of the hosts, Bayelsa United who placed second with four points; El Kanemi Warriors fell to third spot after losing 2-0 to the host. Doma United came last with a point.

Earlier, Bayelsa United outwitted El Kanemi Warriors 2-0 through Robert Mizo’s brace to place second after earning their first win of the tournament yesterday. They had started with a goalless draw against Doma United before losing 1-0 to Insurance on Thursday.
