Top Nigerian athletes will converge on the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Thursday May 26th, 2022 for the Benin Athletics classic and three Imo athletes who qualified for the competition from recent meet have arrived the Edo state capital.
The three athletes are: Jane Onyeneho (200 metres), Chidinma Agu ( 400 metres) and Junior Senior School three sensation, Patience Joseph who will be competing in the 5000 metres.
They qualified for the Benin Athletics Classic after they finished in the top 10 in the three categories in the last classic held in Abuja earlier this month and they arrived Benin City on Tuesday (yesterday) brimming with confidence that they can further put Imo state in the right stead in Nigeria.
The athletes were motivated by the magnanimity of the Imo Athletics Association Chairman, Christianus Ejike Onwuzulike and Uzochukwu Unegbu and the technical supports from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria High Performance Director, Victor Okorie, Imo State Director of Sports, Emmanuel Metu and the entire board members of the Imo Athletics Association.
The athletes and the accompanied coaches Tony Egbogu and Ephraim Ochomba have been tasked to be good ambassadors of the State in Benin City as they strive to bring honours, recognition and fame to Imo State that will enhance their ratings and boost their chances of attending international competitions.
