Nigeria’s representatives at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League, Rivers Angels were thrashed 3-0 yesterday in Cairo, Egypt by ASFAR of Morocco in their Group B’s first game.

It was Rivers Angels that started the game brightly and they were even presented with a decent chance to score in the opening 10 minutes but the effort hit the crossbar.

ASFAR recovered from the initial scare and they took the lead in the 30th minute through Sanaa Mssoudy after the striker benefited from Rivers Angels hesitance in defence to clear a long ball lofted into their vital area.

Mssoudy added two more in the second half to leave the Nigerian team with a mountain to climb in their bid to pick one of the two semi-final tickets in the group.

Rivers Angels are currently bottom of the group behind ASFAR, Mamelodi Sundowns and the Kenyan foes, Vihiga Queens, without any points after a game.

Edwin Okon tutored side will face Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa next on Tuesday in the group’s second game while ASFAR will lock horns with Vihiga Queens of Kenya the same day.
