Asante Kotoko have arrived Kano and are settled down ahead of their Saturday’s first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Kotoko touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja on Thursday afternoon and they quickly headed straight to Kano by road to keep a date with Sai Masu Gida who will host them first on Saturday before the return leg in Kumasi in a fortnight.
The last time Asante Kotoko played against a Nigerian club was in 2004 in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage against Enugu Rangers.
The Ghanaian club beat the Flying Antelopes 3-1 in the first leg in Accra and lost the second le tie 2-1 at Enugu’s Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Kotoko, however, qualified ahead of Rangers to the final despite finishing with the same number of points (10) with Rangers.
They pipped the Enugu side on the head to head result between both teams but lost the final game to another Ghanaian side, Hearts of Oak 8-7 on penalties after the two legs had ended in a 2-2 draw in Accra and Kumasi.
