Balanga United’s head coach, Mohammed Adamu (Kestho) has shown dissatisfaction with the performance of his players in their opening game of the 6th edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup played on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium, Kaltungo.

The reigning champions defeated Junge United 2-0 but Adamu told the Adamu Yola Cup Media that his players must improve in their subsequent games if they are to defend the title again.

“To be frank with you, I am not happy with the performance of my players, the only take away is the win,” Adamu disclosed.

“They did not play to my expectation or their capacity, so I expect us to work on that possibly play better in the next game.”

He also expressed optimism that his team can defend the title they won at the expense of Bare City.

“I am confident that if my boys can play to their capacity, nothing can stop us from defending the title,” he added.

Meanwhile, Defending champions, Balanga United made a winning start to their title defence after they beat Junge United 2-0 in the opening game played at the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium, Kaltungo.

Balanga United were favourites coming into the match against their Balanga LGA counterparts and that was expressed in their first 20 minutes display where their two goals were scored.

Kari Boyi’s right footed low shot found the bottom right corner of the net to put the title holders ahead in the 13th minute to complete a brilliant move that began from their midfield.

Not giving Junge United any chance of coming back into the game, Boyi sent a through pass which found an unmarked Tereyamba Jibrin who beat the goalkeeper with a left bottom corner shot to double Balanga United’s lead in the 19th minute.

Balanga United pushed for more goals and they dictated the pace of the game with Junge United finding it difficult to cope with their experience and pace.

Meanwhile, before the kick off, a one minute silence was observed to honourr Yason Nehemiah (D.Professional FC player) who lost his life.

There were dignitaries who graced the occasion including the Adamawa State FA Chairman, Gombe State FA Chairman Hon. Filibus Yakubu Sarma, Gombe United FC team Coordinator Abubakar Yellow and host of others.

Matches continue on Monday across different centres with last year’s runners up Bare City taking on Pokolin United at the Billiri centre, Alfa United Vs Panwa at the Boh centre and Dala Waja United facing Kulani FC at Talasse among other games lined up.
