The 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League first phase in Abuja continued with thrilling Day 9 fixtures that produced upsets, standout wins, and fierce battles across both the men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s cadre, the biggest talking point was Nigeria Police Force (NPF)’s stunning 3-2 triumph over Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Despite losing the opening set 12-25, the Police side roared back to claim the second and third sets (25-15, 25-22). NSCDC fought back to force a decider with a 25-21 fourth set win, but NPF held their nerve in the final stretch, clinching it 15-11 for a shock victory.

Defending champions Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) maintained their impeccable run with a composed 3-1 win over Nigeria Air Force (NAF) (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19). It was their seventh win of the season and a loss while Kano Pillars recorded their third win of the season, edging UCEM 3-1 in a tight contest (28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23). Offa also impressed, dispatching Kada Kings 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) to strengthen their push up the standings.

Elsewhere, Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) posted a straight-sets victory over Sunshine Spikers (25-21, 25-19, 26-24), while Nigeria Customs Service continued to keep pace with the leaders after a resilient 3-1 triumph against Chief of Army Staff (COAS) (20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17).

In the women’s fixtures, Nigeria Customs Service extended their dominance with another ruthless display, sweeping Chief of Army Staff Queens 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14). They are the only team with an unblemished record after eight games.

NSCDC Queens, however, were pushed to the limit by Nigeria Air Force Queens before eventually sealing a 3-2 win in a nail-biter (23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 21-19).

Olalomi Spikers continued their strong run with a 3-1 victory over Anambra Queens (13-25, 25-9, 26-24, 25-19), while Kada Emeralds pulled off a dramatic 3-2 win against Life Camp Queens (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 15-8). Chief of Naval Staff Queens were equally dominant, brushing aside Wikki Spikers 3-0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-14).

With Day 9 wrapped up, CNS remain untouchable in the men’s division, while Customs continue to set the pace in the women’s cadre. However, NPF’s shock win over NSCDC shows that surprises are still very much possible in this fiercely competitive league.
