CNS, Customs Extend Dominance as Police Shock NCS in Day 7 of CGC Volleyball Premier League
The 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League first phase in Abuja produced another round of thrills on Day 7, with reigning champions in both the men’s and women’s categories stamping their authority while Nigeria Police Force VC stunned Nigeria Customs Service VC in a dramatic upset.
In the men’s cadre, defending champions Chief of Naval Staff VC maintained their place at the summit of the table with 16 points after a hard-fought 3-1 triumph over Kada Kings. They remain unbeaten after six matches, underlining their credentials for back-to-back league glory.
Chief of Army Staff VC are hot on their heels in second place with 15 points, courtesy of a convincing 3-0 victory over UCEM, who sit eighth with six points. Nigeria Customs Service VC, however, slipped to third on 14 points following a shock 3-1 defeat to Nigeria Police Force VC.
The Police, who had failed to win in their previous outings, roared to life by coming from behind after dropping the opening set 23-25. They rallied to claim the next three sets 25-21, 26-24, and 25-19, registering their first win of the campaign and shaking up the men’s standings.
Elsewhere, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) climbed to fourth with 14 points after dispatching Kano Pillars 3-0, while Sunshine Spikers moved up to fifth with eight points following a 3-1 win over Offa VC. Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) also made strides, sealing a third victory of the season with a straight-sets triumph (3-0) over Nigeria Air Force VC.
In the women’s division, champions Nigeria Customs Service VC extended their perfect record, securing a sixth win from as many games. They proved too strong for fellow unbeaten side NSCDC, coasting to a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) to cement top spot with 18 points.
Chief of Naval Staff VC remain second on 15 points after a commanding 3-0 win over Chief of Army Staff VC, who sit third with the same number of points.
Further down the table, Benue Queens secured only their second win of the season, easing past Wikki Tourists Spikers in straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-18). Life Camp VC also added to their tally with a 3-1 success over Anambra Queens, while Kada Queens edged Nigeria Air Force Queens in a pulsating five-set thriller.
With the competition heating up, CNS and Customs remain the teams to beat in the men’s and women’s categories respectively, but challengers are not far behind as the first phase nears its climax.
