The quarter-final games of the 2nd Akarachi Mbaike Unity Cup began on Sunday, December 26th at Mbaitoli and Ikeduru Local Government Areas of Imo State with two games decided.
Unlike the conventional quarter-final games which are usually knockouts, the organizers have adopted the round-robin with only six teams involved while the option of adding two lucky losers picked from the teams that were beaten in the second round, discarded.
Ogbaku and Orodo B opened the Mbaitoli centre at the Ifakala Community Secondary School, Ifakala and both ended their affair goalless after several near misses.
At the Ikeduru centre, Amaimo picked three points without kicking a ball after they walked over Amakohia.
The match officials waited for over one hour for Amakohia to arrive to fulfill their fixture but they were no where to be found until the match officials performed the official walk over proceedings.
Today, December 27th two games are also scheduled to be played.
At Mbaitoli centre, Orodo A will face Ogbaku in a win or bust for the latter knowing that they only picked a point yesterday against Orodo B in their first game.
Ogbaku will complete their two games with the tie with Orodo A today and must wait for the last game of the round between Orodo A and Orodo B to determine the two teams that will progress to the next round from the centre.
At the Ikeduru centre, Amakohia will trade tackles with Akabo at the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Stadium, Iho today.
Amakohia will be gunning for the three points knowing that they have put themselves in a disadvantage position with their failure to honour the tie with Amaimo.
The 2nd Akarachi Mbaike Unity Cup is bankrolled by Engineer Akarachi Amadi who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Akarachi Foundation and Integrity Group Initiative(IGI).
