Ogbaku and Akabo have swelled the number of quarter-finalists of the ongoing 2nd Akarachi Mbaike Unity Cup to four after they defeated Ogwa 1 and Iho Dimeze on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 in the second round of the tournament played at Mbaitoli and Ikeduru LGAs simultaneously.
Playing at the Ifakala Community Secondary School playing pitch, Ifakala, Mbaitoli, Ogbaku braved the odds to move to the quarter-final after Osinachi Okoro’s individual brilliance shot them ahead in the 57th minute.
It was the only goal of the game but Ogwa 1 will rue their inability to convert some of the chances that came their way in the game.
In the other game played at the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Stadium, Iho, Ikeduru, the home team, Iho Dimeze suffered a shock exit after they were chased out by unrelenting Akabo who moved to the last eight 5-4 on penalties after the regulation time had ended goalless.
Amakohia, Akabo, Orodo B and Ogbaku are the four teams that have qualified for the quarter-final stage with the remaining four teams expected to join today, Thursday, December 23rd.
In the games lined up for today, December 23rd, Ifakala and Orodo A will square up against each other at the Mbaitoli centre while Amaimo and Atta 2 lock horns at the Ikeduru centre by 3 pm.
