Newly formed Ikukuoma FC of Imo state have picked the ticket to compete in the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO 1) next season after they pinned ambitious Anambra side, Ozalla Football Academy 1-0 this evening at the Awka City Stadium.
One of Ikukuoma FC’s revelation of the League season, Samuel Chiedozie scored the all-important goal in the 48th minute of the encounter watched by capacity crowd with media personality in attendance.
Chiedozie thus notched his third goal of the season from just five games as Ikukuoma FC grabbed the sole ticket and will strive to make it second consecutive promotion when they campaign in the NLO 1 next season with a view to qualifying for the Nigeria National League otherwise known as the Championship cadre.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the epoch making outing Ikukuoma FC head coach, Gideon David could not contain his joy at the blast of the referee’s final whistle and he dedicated the promotion to the tireless efforts of the owner of the club, High Chief Summers Nwokie whom he said gave them all they asked for.
He also praised his technical crew and backroom staff and his young players for the determination and the hard work put in to ensure promotion ticket was got despite the odds.
David stressed on the objective of the team which is aimed at getting quality young players and marketing them to clubs abroad and he also hinted that Ikukuoma FC’s target is to play in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“I am full of joy. The boys have really made us proud. We presented young formidable team. I must give kudos to our President High Chief Summers Nwokie,” David told journalists as picked up by dasportstainment247.com.
“He is a sports loving person and he has the passion for the game. He fully supported us. The boys were determined with total commitment to prove a point.
“The higher you go, the higher the challenge. The boys are young. We must go back to the drawing board and strategize on the areas we need to reinforce. We will go for some scouting programme with the aim of recruiting some young talented players to beef up the team.
“The primary objective of the team is for marketing and it is meant to become business oriented club. He is ambition is to get as many as quality young players. We discover, we nurture and then we expose them.”
