Matchday 10 held sway last weekend in the Tsenba Wummen Football League in the Under 14 and 16 cadres with exciting 20 matches played across four centres. There were 33 goals scored in the Under 14 (which is over three goals per match on average) while 45 goals were plundered in the Under 16 which is over four goals per game on average as goals lit up the exciting youth football fiesta on the Plateau.
TALKING POINTS OF UNDER 14 GAMES
Super Stars secured their fifth win of the campaign while Jazzy Stars, Hephzibah (who bagged their first points of the season), Highland Stars, Multiple Waves did enough to scoop three points off their foes but Mees Palace FA and Relentless FA were held for the second time this season by tough opposition in the Under 14.
HIGH POINTS OF UNDER 16 MATCHES
In the Under 16, Kuru Young Stars, Mees Palace, and Galatians jointly got the performance of the weekend after the three scored whooping 19 goals among them as they put their opponents to the sword while Tin City and Rahbam played an entertaining 4-4 thrilling draw. FC Izam and St. Monica continued their winning spree in the Under 16.
UNDER 14 WRAP
Super Stars defeated Ceemonie SA 4-2 to move a step higher to the seventh spot with 17 points. Alamin Muhammed got the curtain-raiser for the Stars in the fifth minute but Ceemonie turned the tide through two quick-fire goals courtesy of Bright Dolyop and Dung Peter Paul in the ninth and 11th minutes. Ismail Ahmad equalised for the Stars in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot before Yusuf Murtala and a second of the game for Muhammed in the 48th and 52nd minutes respectively made for a happy ending for the Super Stars.
Jazzy Stars’ Wisdom Jethro netted twice in his club’s 5-0 wallop of Riverside FA while Mees Palace had their lead at the top reduced to one point after they fired blanks for the first time this season in a goalless draw with Jr. Sporting Boys. The reigning champions are on 26 points from 10 games while Jr. Sporting moves to the sixth spot with 18 points.
Hephzibah had reasons to smile for the first time this season after they invaded Invaders FA by three goals to nil. The win lifts them off the bottom of the log with three points while Highland Stars displaced Relentless FA from the second spot after a 2-1 home victory over SJC Lions. Highland is now occupying the second position with 25 points from 10 games but has played a game more than Relentless FA who are two points behind in the third position after they let-slipped a two-goal lead to settle for a share of the spoils against fourth-placed Elspuron.
Relentless FA thought they were on course to earn their eighth triumph of the season when Jeremiah Sunday continued his impressive goalscoring stats with two goals in the seventh and 22nd minutes but Elspuron sprang to life in the second half and two goals through Daweng Gyang and Eric Pam in the 41st and 47th minutes rescued a point for them. Elspuron FA remains in the fourth spot with 22 points.
UNDER 16 WRAP
It took Mabo Young Stars nine games before registering their maiden victory of the season but they were barely seven minutes away from grabbing their second win of the season against ninth-placed Adalchi FA, last weekend. The rejuvenated Mabo Young Stars shot into the lead in the 27th minute through Umar Yau but they were pegged back by Adalchi’s equaliser in the 53rd minute through Collins Adegoke. Mabo Young Stars are still last on the log but have earned four points from their last two games as against zero from the initial eight games.
Seventh-placed Kuru Young Stars put up a magnificent comeback to annihilate Jazzy Stars 7-2. Tisloh Ishaku and Udakudi Ayang scored a goal each in the third and fifth minutes to put Jazzy Stars two goals up but Kuru Young Stars came back impressively. Reward Dung started the revival in the seventh minute before two further goals each from Weng Pwajok and Mordecai Elisha put them in a comfortable lead. One each from Pam Dung Dauda and Sunday Dalyop added gloss to the result to make it 7-2 emphatic win for Kuru Young Stars who now have 17 points from 10 games.
FC Izam kept their unbeaten start to the season intact after a 1-0 victory over Top Free Academy. Gabriel Danladi’s 12th-minute effort was enough for the maximum points that cement their third spot with 24 points while Top Free Academy plummets to the 18th position with six points.
The battle between the fourth and the fifth-placed teams: Tin City FA and Rahbam FA ended in a 4-4 masterpiece. Mafeng Livinus (Tin City) and Wisdom Joseph (Rahbam) were the stars of the game with a brace each while Mees Palace maintained their two points lead at the top even with a game at hand with a 7-0 victory over Royal Stars. Mees Palace has 27 points from nine games while Royal Stars are 12th on the log with 12 points.
In other results, St. Monica thrashed SJC Lions 3-0 to remain within touching distance of Mees Palace, in the second position with 25 points but they have played a game more than the reigning league champions. Galatians stepped to the eighth position after a 5-0 victory over FC Sports.
