All is now set for the grand finale of the Sheroes Cup 2023 Preseason Tournament for Nigeria Women’s Football League Championship teams as Imo Strikers Queens lock horns with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos on Friday morning after both teams beat their semi final foes on Thursday.
Harmony Achifula was the heroine for Imo Strikers Queens who came back from a goal down to beat Delta Babes 2-1 in the first semi final. Achifula who had scored a goal each against Honey Badgers and Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens in the group stage bagged a brace against Delta Babes to help book her team’s final ticket.
Achifula who came to the competition not fully fit and hadn’t trained for two weeks was called upon to rescue her side when they were a goal down against Delta Babes and she didn’t disappoint.
The youngster expressed gratitude to God after the game and promised to continue giving her best to her team as they battle Dannaz Ladies in the final this morning.
“I am always happy to help the team. It is my resolve to always help my team if I am able to. I want to thank God for making it possible for me to do so,” Achifula said shortly after the game.
“I didn’t know I would be able to come for the competition at all. I thank God for everything.”
In the second semi final, another NWFL Championship side, Dannaz Ladies pipped Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens 1-0 to maintain their unbeaten streak in the competition. They are also through to Friday’s final.
It will be battle between two unbeaten sides in the final this morning.
To get to the final, Imo Strikers Queens defeated Paul E Ladies 4-0; Honey Badgers 3-2 and Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens 1-0 to top Group A with nine points before adding Delta Babes to the list of their victims with a 2-1 victory in the semi final.
Dannaz Ladies have also impressed with four wins so far. Dannaz beat DreamStars FC 2-1. Delta Babes and Nazareth Babes suffered identical 3-1 losses while it was the turn of Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens to fall 1-0 in the last four.
It promises to be a tough final as Imo Strikers Queens target the title. It would be an improvement on another competition they attended in the capital city which they were eliminated controversially in the semi final.
The Owerri based side will rely on the impressive duo of Miracle Ezeka and Harmony Achifula who are both on four goals each to get the goals.
Before the final which starts by 10am, at 8am, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens and Delta Babes will compete for the third spot at the Area 3 Sports Turf, Abuja. Both teams were beaten in the semi final.
