Sunshine Stars pipped stubborn Smart City FC 1-0 through the late strike of substitute, Azeez Ajagbe to earn the first win of the Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament in a game played at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos yesterday.
It was a cagey affair and when it was as if the game was headed for a goalless draw, Ajagbe struck in the 85th minute to ensure the Owena Whales jumped to the top of Group A with three points.
Earlier, Ottasolo FC and 36 Lion played out an entertaining goalless draw in the opening game of the debut edition of the Ottasolo Pre-season Tournament.
Ottasolo FC played the final 30 minutes of the game with a man down after impressive hitman, Ahmed Egbedeyi was red-carded in the 60th but they still managed to secure a point at the end of the game.
Today, the day two of the tournament will witness games in Group B with Lobi Stars taking on Yobo FC while MFM and Remo Stars will lock horns in a South Western derby.
Group B has been tagged the group of death from the purists that attended the draw held on Sunday night and the four teams will want to go all out gun-blazing hoping to start the pre-season tourney on a positive note.
The Ottasolo Preseason Tournament is sponsored by business tycoon, Gabriel Davies who is the owner of Ottasolo FC.
The tourney which began November 1st runs through the 7th.
