Ogunbote praises Sunshine Stars’ zeal in narrow home win

Sunshine Stars head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has hailed the resilience, courage and determination of his players who went out of their way to grind out the maximum points against Warri Wolves at the Ondo Sports Complex, Akure on Sunday.

The Owena Whales were close to settling for a home draw before Sadeeq Yusuf netted the matchwinner in the dying moments of the game and Ogunbote in his post match analysis pointed that a draw against the Seasiders would have been a massive setback to him and the team

Ogunbote said :”Victory at last; it was a hard-earned one and it would have been a big set back if we didn’t get the three points. I salute the resilience, the courage and determination of my boys.

“I knew we were go to have a little challenge as regards fatigue. We are making best use of the situation we have found ourselves. Sadeeq? We pray he continues with his goal exploit.”
Yusuf: “Am so glad we did it. Our coach has thought us everything and we put it all to use and thank God we come out victoriously.

“I am looking to force my way back into the starting XI and will continue with this form if I get into the starting line up. I am not just a second joker.”

Sadeeq Yusuf scored a last minute goal as Sunshine Stars laboured to subdue hard-fighting Warri Wolves 1-0 in an NPFL match day five tie at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Sunday.

Yusuf again combined to a devastating effect with fellow second half substitute, Ayo Akinlose who whipped in an inch-perfect cross for the new found hero in Akure to head home for a win that moved the coach Gbenga Ogunbote’s charges into the top half on the league table.

After a tepid opening half the contest burst to life in the final period with Sunshine Stars moving within inches of breaking the Seasiders resistance through Chinedu Udechukwu who saw his shot from inside the area deflected off target by whisker in the 65′.

Waheed Adebayo was next to have a crack at goal as he weaved his way round Warri Wolves defense line before sending a low drive just wide.

With the clock ticking out faster like the previous round, Ogunbote pulled a master stroke with some final period changes, which included the introduction of Akinlose who delivered a delightful ball for Yusuf to score and secure the win in the last minute of regulation time.
