NWFL Premiership Matchday 11 Review: Bayelsa Queens open five points gap; Ibom Angels, Delta Queens in morale-boosting win

Royal Queens suffered their first home loss of the season to Bayelsa Queens in a game played at the Warri Township Stadium, Warri.

Mary Anjor and Charity Reuben continued their impressive form with the opening two goals in the 25th and 47th minutes before Zainab Olapade added the third goal in the 67th minute. Chiamaka Okwuchukwu’s 77th-minute strike for the home team from the penalty spot was more of a consolation goal.

Bayelsa Queens have opened up a five-point gap at the top of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership with 28 points from 11 games while Royal Queens are 10th with 13 points.

At the Oshogbo Township Stadium, the home team, Osun Babes were beaten 1-0 by Delta Queens. Comfort Folorunsho scored the back-breaking goal that cemented the three points for the Okowa Ladies.

Delta Queens have now displaced Rivers Angels at the second spot. They are on 23 points after 11 Matchdays. Osun Babes have slipped to the ninth spot with 14 points.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels lost their home invincibility after they were forced to a goalless draw by Sunshine Queens. It was the first time that the Jewels of Rivers will fail to annex all points at home this season. They have now gone on two games winless streak after they lost for the first time this season in Lagos to FC Robo Queens last week.

Rivers Angels have slipped to the third spot as a result of the home draw. They have 22 points from 11 matches. Sunshine Queens moved to the sixth position with 17 points from as many games.

Ibom Angels secured their first home win of the season at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. Precious Edewor 10th minute spot-kick was enough to end their poor home run. They improve to seven points from 11 games. They are still 13th on the table. Edo Queens on the other hand, dropped to the fourth spot with 20 points.

Pelican Stars pinned Confluence Queens 1-0 in Calabar while Nasarawa Amazons and FC Robo Queens picked valuable away points against DreamStar Ladies and Abia Angels.
