NPFL Week 10 Review: Kayode’s double lifts Rivers United ; 3SC wallop troubled Heartland

Ishaq Kayode continued his predatory instinct in front of goal after he scored both goals for Rivers United in their 2-1 win over Dakkada yesterday at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt in one of the Week 10 games to increase his goals tally to nine.

Kayode scored the opening goal in the 33rd minute after a clever assist from Chijioke Akuneto but the Chosen Ones equalized in the 45th minute to go to halftime at a goal apiece.

Kayode made it the ninth goal of the season when he notched another to put Rivers United in the driver’s seat once again from the spot kick in the 61st minute.

The win ensured that the Pride of Rivers remain at the top with 22 points from 10 games. They are two points better than second-placed Remo Stars who held Kano Pillars to a goalless draw in Kaduna.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Shooting Stars romped to their biggest league win in six years after they battered Heartland FC 4-0. The Owerri side without the presence of their Head coach, Hassan Abdallah at the dugout in Ibadan have now lost all but one of their away games by at least 3-0 or more this season.

Kolawole Daniel, Taofeeq Malomo, Ayo Adejubu, and Nafiu Raheem in the 52nd, 77th, 85th and 90th minutes scored the goals for the Oluyole Warriors.

The Oluyole Warriors have moved to the sixth spot with 15 points while Heartland FC remain in the 19th spot with seven points.

At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, reigning league champions, Akwa United failed to make home advantage count once again after they allowed Kwara United to snatch a 1-1 draw. Stephen Chukwude bagged his second goal of the season in the 18th minute for the home team but Samad Kadiri restored parity in the 70th minute for the visitors.

The Promise Keepers slipped to the seven spot with 15 points as a result of the draw but the Harmony Boys moved to the eighth position with 15 points also but with inferior goals difference.

Meanwhile at the Lafia Township Stadium, Enyimba were beaten 2-1 by Nasarawa United through a last gasp goal scored by Mohammed Shammasu in the 92nd minute.

It was the visitors that netted first through Victor Mbaoma in the 13th minute but the home team were levelled through Tolulope Oluwole five minutes later before the Shammasu’s last minute heroic sent the Solid Miners to the 10th spot with 15 points. Enyimba are fifth with 16 points.

Lobi Stars’ misery got increased with a 1-1 draw at home to Niger Tornadoes while Enugu Rangers suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to Plateau United in Nnewi.

Buhari Ibrahim’s fifth minute goal guaranteed the Peace Boys their first away points this season as they replaced the Flying Antelopes in the third position with 18 points but Rangers slipped to the fourth spot with 16 points.

At the Okigwe Township Stadium, Okigwe, Valentine Odoh’s double in the 35th and 67th minutes and Godwin Obaje’s 73rd minute effort handed Abia Warriors their biggest win of the season after they caged Wikki Tourists 3-0 at home. The Warriors sneaked out of the relegation zone with 12 points to occupy the 14th spot.
