Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria National League (NNL), Dr. Sajo Mohammed has hailed the Bayelsa State Government under the stewardship of Governor Douye Diri who took up the task of hosting the NNL Super 4 despite the state recent challenges with flood.
Sajo while speaking during the NNL Super Four draw noted that the gesture of the Bayelsa Government to agree for the tournament which serves as tune up games for the newly promoted clubs and also determine the champions of the NNL last season, was applaudable and he prays that God will turn the tide of things and help fast track the return of things to normalcy.
“We thank the Bayelsa State Government immensely for hosting this. The state has gone through a lot in recent times but the boldness with which the government showed its support for the Super Four is one that should be applauded,” the NNL CEO opined.
Dr. Sajo nonetheless explained modalities for the tournament while giving the participating four teams of Bendel Insurance, Doma United, El Kanemi Warriors and Bayelsa United the chance to choose between playing the tournament as a round robin basis or going straight into the semi-final.
The teams agreed for the tournament to be played by round robin with the four teams expected to play three games each and the top at the end of the games is declared as winner.
“We decided this season to do the Super Four – all the teams that won their various groups, otherwise, we would have done Super Eight when no one would be sure to do qualification until the end.
“I want to appeal to the teams to take this seriously and give their best so that the league can live up to its billing.
“I wish you all the best in the competition. To the referees, please give us professional officiating in this tourney.”
Also in the same vein, the Chief Operating Officer, NNL, Mr Emmanuel Adesanya also thumbed up the willing spirit of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri who ensured the Super Four went ahead despite the state’s recent travails with flood.
He said the Governor has raised the bars on how things should be done even in the face of challenges while adding that Governor’s Diri’s love for the youths to meaningfully engage in acts that would keep them off nefarious activities is second to none.
“I want to further appreciate and recognize the governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri,” the NNL COO stated.
“Despite the flood that ravaged the state and other parts of the South, the governor was determined to ensure that this will take place – for the sake of the youths.”
Adesanya enjoined the four participating teams to play by the rules and enjoy themselves knowing that the promotion tickets had already been gotten and so shouldn’t be under pressure.
“We are here to enjoy ourselves and thank God these teams have already qualified, so there won’t be any pressure whatsoever.”
