Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has made his long awaited return to football after he replaced goal scorer, Jose Arnaiz in the 90th minute for his ninth game of the Spanish La Liga Smartbank season in Leganes 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

Omeruo got injured just before the last International break on November 1st in their 1-0 win over Mirandes and he made his return on Wednesday night in another 1-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano.

The win has taken Leganes to the third position with 31 points from 16 games ahead of their weekend fixture with Tenerife.

In England, former Super Eagles skipper, John Mikel Obi missed his first game of the season for Stoke City who still went ahead to beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 at the Adams Park on Wednesday night to move to the eighth position with 25 points from 15 games.

Mikel Obi had played every minute of the Potters opening 13 games but in his 14th game against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on November 28, he was replaced with Jordan Cousins in the 76th minute fueling the notion that he might have got injured in the game.

Nigeria eligible: Akin Akinfenwa who was introduced in the 54th minute and Fred Onyedinma who was on from start to finish, played for Wycombe but they were unable to muster a comeback as soon as Nick Powell struck in the 72nd minute.

Ovie Ejaria continued from where he stopped at the weekend after he helped Reading snatch a draw at Sheffield Wednesday. Ejaria who scored last weekend provided the assist for the Royals’ goal.

Michael Olise and Sone Aluko who are Ejaria’s teammates at Reading were on for 75 and 20 minutes respectively and the draw kept the Royals in the fourth position with 27 points from 15 games.

Moses Odubajo and Dominic Iorfa Jr are players of Sheffield Wednesday.

At the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough with Chuba Akpom playing the entire 90 minutes beat Swansey City 2-1 to move to the 10th spot with 24 points from 15 games.

At the City Ground, William Troost Ekong was benched for the second successive game for Watford in their goalless draw with Nottingham Forest. The Hornets are third on the log with 27 points from 15 games.
