Jigawa Golden Stars will resume in preparation for the start of their return to the Nigeria Professional Football League on August 17. The Hadejia based side secured their return to the topflight recently after they defeated NAF Rockets of Abuja in the NNL playoffs and the team has made some adjustments to the squad that won them the ticket to the elite division.
In a statement from the club media, nine players have been told to look elsewhere for playing time ahead of next season while the list of the retained players has also been made public.
The players sacked are Emmanuel Richard, Abdulmajeed Maskala, Ansaru Abubakar, Mohammed Sagir, Jesse Lazarus Abdulrasheed Shehu, Enyia Amagbo, Riki Dickson and Kalu Nkpa while 21 players were retained.
“A decision was made after rigorous meeting with the team head coach, head of scout and the back-room staff,” the club official media wrote in a statement made available to DaSportsTainment247.com. “We use each players performance data during the last season to see if they will be able to continue with us or not.”
“We wish the affected players best of luck in their future endeavours.” The retained players include two goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and four strikers.
It is the first time Jigawa Stars will be competing in the topflight since 2012 when they were demoted alongside Rising Stars, Niger Tornadoes and Ocean Boys who were earlier demoted from the then Nigeria Premier League for flouting the league’s stipulated rules.
