Imo Angels FC defender, Anele Chidinma alongside 34 others have been invited for camping ahead of Nigeria FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifier later this year.
According to a letter received by the Owerri based club through Imo State Football Association FA, the Ngor Okpala born defender is expected to join her colleagues in Camp on or before August 15 in readiness for their preparations.
Reacting on the recent development, the club’s Chief Executive Officer CEO, Lady Jenny Anusiem expressed delight to the news and congratulated the club and the state FA noting that the achievement is for Imo.
“This shows that all our efforts to empower the girl child through football hasn’t been in vein.
“My prayer is for Anele to succeed as this will in no little measure serve as a stepping stone for many other Imo Angels FC players and other clubs in the state.
While charging the hard tackling defender to be a worthy ambassador of Imo Angels FC in the camp, the Clubs General Manager, Chuks Dike said the team is excited over the invitation pointing out that in less than 8 months of the clubs existence they have walked their way into the hearts of many in the nation.
He said the exploits recorded by the team at Ogun state earlier this year were they won an invitational tournament, the state Aiteo cup final game and the numerous grade a friendlies has been of immense help to improve the players.
Recall that Coach Chris Danjuma invited 35 players to the camp of the U20 Girls’ National Team ahead of the African qualifying series for the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals, which enters the second round in the third week of September.

The Falconets, runners-up at the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and 2014, were drawn bye to the second round, and will now confront the U20 girls of the Central African Republic in the first leg scheduled for 23-25 September, with the return leg in Nigeria between 7-9 October.

A victory over Central African Republic means the Falconets will further face two more rounds to qualify for the 2022 FIFA U -20 Women’s World Cup finals to be hosted by Costa Rica and Panama.

The invited players are to report at the Chida Hotel, Utako, Abuja on Sunday, 15th August with their training kits, international e -passport, certificate of birth and letter of consent from the state FA.
