Ikukuoma Foundation’s Owerri Zone Sec.Schools Football Tourney: Comprehensive Secondary Schools Ubomiri & Orji zoom to 3rd Round as tourney continues today

The second round of the maiden edition of the Ikukuoma Foundation Powered Secondary School Football Competition and organized by Like -Minds Fitness Club for Owerri Zone continues this morning at the practice pitch of the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri with two fantastic games on offer.

10 successful teams from the first round of games which was concluded on Wednesday November 9th 2022 and the Ezeagbogu Secondary School (Ezinihitte MBaise) that drew bye in the first round continued battle for the title for a place into the third round.

The first match of the second round was between Comprehensive Secondary School, Amakohia (Owerri North) and Comprehensive Secondary School Ubomiri (Mbaitoli LGA) and the young exciting lads from Ubomiri triumphed 3-2. It was a splendid game that could have gone either way but comprehensive Secondary School, Ubomiri did just enough to qualify for the third round.

Amakohia opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes through Ohanyere Osinachi.
Ubomiri equalized via a set-piece, with a wonder freekick played by Ekperendu Anumkuo.

In the second half, the Ubomiri lads scored twice through Frank Promise and Chigaemezu Uzoma. While the Amakohia team got a second goal through Oti Divine.

The second game of the day saw Comprehensive Secondary School, Orji (Owerri North) defeat Pater Noster Secondary School (Ahiazu Mbaise) by 2-0. It was a good display of football artistry by the school from Orji and they joined Comprehensive Secondary School, Ubomiri as the two schools that are through to the next round.

Comprehensive Secondary School, Orji, defeated Pater Noster, Ahiazu Mbaise with two first half goals from Ofuejiofor Delight and Uwaemeokpo Ifeanyi.

This morning, the second round games continue with Emmanuel College (Owerri Municipal) taking on Government Secondary School (Owerri Municipal) in a local derby by 10am while Obizi High School (Ezinihitte) will square up against Holy Ghost College (Owerri Municipal).

Meanwhile history was made on Wednesday during the last two games of the first round games as the fastest goal of the tournament was scored by Onyeneke Franklyn of Owalla Avuvu Secondary School, Ikeduru within 57seconds of play in their game against City School Owerri. It was the only goal of the game.

Also, Gideon Iheanyichukwu of St Patrick Secondary School (Ahiazu Mbaise) scored the first hat trick of the tournament to help his team to proceed to the next round after a 3-1 win over Okpala Secondary School (Ngor Okpala)
